Vijay Kumar Sinha resigns ahead of the Bijar assembly floor test

‘Bowing before majority, I resign as speaker’. According to The Indian Express, house speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha reportedly resigned this August 24, 2022. Ahead of the Bihar Assembly floor test. The floor will now be led by Narendra Yadav, who is recommended by Sinha himself. 

News by the Economic Times India states that Sinha’s resignation came after the no-confidence motion against him was moved by the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the ruling coalition. Sinha mentioned that the notice for motion created by the MLA is unclear and does not follow the necessary procedures. ‘I would like to tell you that your no-confidence motion is unclear, eight of the nine letters, which were received were not as per rule.

On the morning of August 24, before Sinha officially resigned, there had been news about a protest happening just outside the Bihar Assembly. SPI-ML demands that Sinha resigns from his position as the house speaker. 

Along with this, BJP leaders also protested outside the Vidhan Sabha over their hurt religious sentiments saying ‘Disrespect to Hindu gods won’t be tolerated”. The BJP protesters in Bihar had objected to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visiting the temple in Gaya that prevents entry of non-Hindus. The BJP demanded an apology for the disrespectful act against their religion. 

Sinha’s resignation as the Bihar Assembly speaker means that the trust vote will proceed ahead this August. In the wake of Sinha’s resignation, BJP is now stripped of power in the legislation of the state. 

During this, there are CBI raids underway at 25 different locations in connection to the land for job scams in New Delhi, Gurugram, Patna, Katihar and Madhubani.   

There were reports that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had raided the residences of the leaders of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in connection to a scam called the ‘land for jobs’. 

According to Rabriu Devi, the former chief minister of Bihar and the leader of Rashtriya Janata Dal, ‘they (pertaining to the Bharatiya Janata Party) are scared as a new government has been formed under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. All parties are with us except BJP. We have the majority here in the state and we will not be scared because this is not the first time that is happening’. 

The raids conducted by CBI are notably connected to RJD MLC Sunil Singh along with the three MP’s Ashfaque Karim, Faiyaz Ahmed and Subodh Roy’s properties.
